The Hangover: Movie Review by Christine Albrecht

Rating: 18A

When I first heard the rating, I thought OH NO not another Bruno, which I walked out of after 45 minutes.

Imagine my surprise at a movie that kept me laughing from beginning to end.

The storyline follows three groomsmen (Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis) who take the groom to Vegas for his stag. Because of a mixup between ecstasy and roofies (be aware that they don’t do drugs, other than Galifianakis) they wake up with their suite in disarray, a baby in the closet; a tiger in the bathroom, and no memory of anything, including where they may have lost the groom. (Justin Bartha).

When I hear the city “Vegas” mentioned, I immediately think ... great... strippers, drinking and other unmentionables. Aside from the slideshow at the end, there really isn’t too much obsession with these factors.

While tracking down their lost groom, the three gradually encounter all the things they did the night before and it seems to get worse while promoting loud laughter with each crisis.

The movie also introduces a circular theme, beginning at the end with a groomsman beginning to tell the bride that the groom won’t make it, yet moving backwards, following leads, until the audience finally figures out how they got to the ominous phonecall.

Some of the funniest parts of this movie are the cameos of Mike Tyson (not for his acting, but for his basic speech pattern and punch), Wayne Newton, the baby that Galifianakis named Carlos, Carrot Top, and of course, the tiger and chicken.

Galifianakis steals the movie, but all the characters work off each other so well that it is impossible to give this movie anything but a 5/5.
